Fragile

The fragile state in which you left me, I was left full of sadness. Not knowing why or what was the hardest part. Tears running down my face, sadness occupying my heart. We were never meant to be, so why did I go on fooling myself? I wanted something that wasn’t there, so I lied to myself. You will never be mine, but I’m fine with that now, I grew and I blossomed.

You Me, I’m okay now.

I’m not a writer

I would like to stress that I’m not a writer, I purely use this blog to express my feelings. I write for myself mostly, but if you happen to read it I would like to stress that I’m not a writer before people tell me about about grammar errors. I don’t really care what you think, this is a platform for me to air my thoughts, not for people to critique what I am saying.

Getting attached.

I often find myself getting attached to things easily, whether that be a person, a TV program and even a book. Things don’t last forever, not a TV show not a book these things all come to a some sort of a end, usually a happy one. Maybe after a couple of weeks I can move on, because there are always going to be other TV shows, other books.

Getting attached to a person however is more complex. People have a effect on you, a effect which sometimes lasts forever.  Another person can effect how you feel more then any book could ever, when a new person comes into your life, and you begin to get to know them, the first few days are new they feel ‘fun’. But sometimes it can be more deeper than this, I don’t believe in love at first sight, but I do believe the first impression you get of someone is the one that will stay with you forever the one that makes you either fall for them, or makes you aware that the only thing that can come from this is  friendship.

Attachment has always been my problem I guess, when I fall, I fall hard.

The desire

Today, everyone wants to be better than one another, if someone else is to a acquire a material object we want to as well if not the same object something better, things have become so important to us, having things now defines our happiness, happiness is now measured by what we have.

Object desire is what runs the world, no one seems to understand the true essence of happiness anymore. Not happiness generated by objects but the happiness that comes from within, happiness from the inside, happiness we get from achieving personal goals, many personal goals now also involve these same objects, self accomplishment doesn’t seem to be enough we are only happy when we gain objects.

Its sad, it makes me sad that our generation is in love with objects.

Culture and Religion

As a British Muslim, I feel like there is often a blurred line between religion and culture. Today even more as a Pakistani in Britain I often find myself questioning whether what I am told Is a religious practise or a cultural practise, I often feel that Islam the religion that gave rights to women before anyone else did is deemed as oppressive on women, this is although not the case.

Pakistani culture is very oppressive, often women are taught that men own them, you are told to ask permission before doing things that many British women would deem rights. Its  important that we understand that religion doesn’t oppress culture does, culture allows us to understand traditions of our ancestors and some aspects of Pakistani culture are beautiful no doubt, but other aspects encourage women to be deemed as second class citizens. This is a long lasting effect of generations imposing these ideas on their children. It isn’t something that can easily  be changed but it important for us a British Pakistanis to understand the difference between religion and culture.

Dexter: Do we all have a Dark Passenger?

After rtumblr_njcaxr8CdE1u9137go1_500ecently doing much research academically on Dexter, I want to ask the question as a audience why we find it acceptable for Dexter to kill people who are ‘bad’. Dexter’s character has the desire to kill, his character has channelled these desires to only kill people who are ‘murderers’ he has to have evidence of this, but once he gets this evidence we as a audience want his character to kill them. Throughout the seasons, Dexter becomes our favourite serial killer.

Many academic texts argue the Dexter is the Post 9/11 serial killer, as a audience we want Dexter to kill the bad guys, for us terrorist are murderers who deserve death, therefore do we now have this notion for all other killers too?

Muslims in Britian

For my dissertation I am doing the topic of ‘Media’s representation of Islam pre/post 9/11.

During my research I came across one article that tugged at my heart strings. Many of you will be aware of the Rushdie Crisis and The Gulf Crisis, afters these two incidents was the first time Britain had seen the spread of ‘Islamophobia’. Freedom of speech let the Muslims of then Britain to speak out against its states actions, for which they received much back lash, a senior officer for the police at the time was reported saying “dark-skinned people were attacked because they were considered to be supporters of Saddam Hussein” this was after racist crime and attacks had risen 100%.

Here is demonstration of how one’s own state is being their enemy; it upsets me that at the time people didn’t have the law on their side. Instead of the law to look for its citizen’s best interest it chose to ignore these people. Today we live in a country which every single day has the argument of “freedom of speech” where was this when people were being attacked for condemning the actions of the British government against Iraq? Surely that was also their right to Freedom of Speech.

India and rape.

India is a country with great potential, a country who was deemed a developing country. But the culture, of India and the nature of rape in India, is at a disgusting level, the country who could be the leading country of Asia is unable to combat the issue of rape or even raise accurate amount of awareness for it. In the last few years we have seen many cases come to light which have merely shocked the western world, but these case are only a small amount of the real issue that the country is facing, much of the blame can be put on culture, the culture on India makes a woman a possession of a man. With other attributes such as government corruption allowing criminals to get away with these such actions, leaving victims without any justice. This issue is a big issue and if India are not able to change policies many women will be victims of the cruel act.
